With much help and support from so many friends, neighbors, the folks at the Schroth School and my trooper of a wife who stayed home with the kids, I went to Oak Hill, NY for a bluegrass festival last week with two of the best people I know. We lived and breathed music for five days. It was the best sleep away camp ever.
Saw a bunch of new artists. Standouts who you should definitely be listening to include:
- Billy Strings
- Julian Lage
- O’Connor Band (Mark O’Connor & family)
- Also, the Travelin’ McCoury’s played a set of Grateful Dead tunes that gave me the shivers they sounded so natural. Like Hunter/Garcia had written specifically for them to play them. Listen to Del’s son Ronnie sing Brown Eyed Women. Also have some vid below of a great Loose Lucy arrangement they did.
Here are some pictures from Grey Fox, 2017 that’ll give you a feel for the crazy and awesome scene. (Click any of them to enbiggen!)
Here are a few movies:
1st up, is the ridiculously amazing Billy Strings who blew us all away with the speed and power of his super-clean picking!
next up, the McCoury boys make it clear that they were born to play the Grateful Dead.
